Monterey County Pops!
Music is alive and well in the North Monterey County Unified School District! On Wednesday, March 8, 2023, 23 professional musicians from Monterey County Pops! will travel to Castrovillle to conduct musical workshops with the NMC Middle and High School band students. Following the two-hour workshops, the students will perform with the Monterey County Pops! in a free concert at North Monterey County High School at 6:30pm.
The free concert will include the 60-member NMC High School Band, under the batons of Marcie Chapa and Barry Capiaux. The 65-member 7th Grade Band and the 30-member 8th Grade Band, under the baton of Barry Capiaux will also perform.
“It’s incredible to see this kind of enthusiasm for music in our schools,” says Monterey County Pops! Director Dr. Carl Christensen. “We are very pleased to make this connection with the North Monterey County school music programs, and we are excited to make this an annual collaboration”. All of these bands consist of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments.
This free Community Concert at North Monterey County High School on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. will include the Monterey County Pops! performing traditional favorites such as Tailgate Ramble and Bill Bailey, marches by John Philip Sousa, themes from Coco and Encanto, classical music by Saint-Saëns, traditional Mexican favorites such as Jarabe Tapatio, and the popular classic Bohemian Rhapsody
The concert will conclude with a thunderous performance by the combined bands of the glorious OVERTURE 1812 – FINALE by Tchaikovsky.
