The Pops! Celebrates Freedom!
“The Pops! Celebrates Freedom!” free concert is part of the day-long 4th of July festivites in the Downtown Monterey Business District.
This will be a very grand celebration – not to be missed – with a multi-media EXTRAVAGANZA of Music, Lasers, High Tech Bells and Cannons, Patriotic Visual/Screen Projections, a Flash “Battle Hymn” Choir and a very special and unique performance on the historic Mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ.
There is no admission charge. There never is at any of the Monterey County Pops! concerts!
Seating is on a “first-come first-served” basis with the doors opening at 6:00 pm.
This concert features the same large ensemble that gave such a stirring performance on the Colton Hall Lawn on Memorial Day 2014. The 4th of July concert includes music by John Philip Sousa, Aaron Copland, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, and Cole Porter. Modern selections include music from Civilization IV, Star Trek, and Lord of the Dance.
The program will be augmented by a laser show created by CTA Lasers, projections of patriotic images on the giant screen of the theatre, and a special collaboration with the mighty Wurlitzer pipe organ of the Golden State Theatre.
The concert will include the Battle Hymn of the Republic in the classic setting by Peter Wilhousky. Local choral singers who have performed this popular version are invited to join in the performance.
