The 15-member Brass/Percussion Ensemble of Monterey County Pops! will present a free public performance at Spreckels Memorial Park on July 4th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The public is also invited to hear the ensemble rehearse from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. This will be the fifth consecutive year that the group has performed at the Spreckels 4th of July Celebration presented by the Spreckels Volunteer Fire Company
The powerful ensemble of trumpets, french horns, trombones, euphonium, tuba, percussion and timpani conducted by Music Director, Dr. Carl Christensen, will present a program that includes the patriotic favorites “Battle Hymn of the Republic”, You’re a Grand Old Flag”, and the “Liberty Bell March” by Sousa.
Other selections include swing favorite “In the Mood”, the spiritual “Down By the Riverside”, the popular “New York, New York”, Verdi’s “Grand March from Aida”, and the American classic “When Johnny Comes Marching Home.”
A special feature of the concert will be a performance by 11-year old trombonist Elijah Taurke, a student of Pops! Conductor, Christensen, and Pops! trombonist, Alex Bedner. Taurke will play “Topaz” by H.A. VanderCook.
