Salute to Veterans! in King City
For the sixth consecutive year, the professional musicians of Monterey County Pops! will present a FREE “Salute to Veterans” concert in King City. The concert will take place on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the historic Robert Stanton Theater on the campus of King City High School. Guest performers will include the student instrumentalists of SOL-O, the Sol Treasures Orchestra, under the direction of Daphne Denny, and also King City’s Monterey County Dance Theatre, under the direction of Jan Harkness.
The professional, 20-member Wind Ensemble, conducted and hosted by Music Director, Dr. Carl Christensen, will perform a program of pops, patriotic, and Americana favorites, including American Salute, American Folk Rhapsody, and Stars and Stripes Forever. The guest performers will also perform with the professional orchestra as well. The students of the SOL-O will join the Monterey County Pops! to present a few numbers, including Turkey in the Straw and The Polka Dot Polka. Soprano Stephanie Hulsey will sing The Star Spangled Banner, and other beloved patriotic songs, accompanied by Monterey County Pops!
This concert will also feature a sneak preview of “The Nightingale Ballet”, composed by King City resident and Hartnell Music Professor, Steve Ettinger. Monterey County Dance Theatre and Monterey County Pops! will perform this full-length ballet as a world premiere in the Stanton Theater in April 2019. Ms. Ashley Madrid of the Monterey County Dance Theatre will dance an excerpt from her leading role in this full ballet.
During the concert a lifetime service plaque will be presented to Dr. Ed and Mary Ballengee in honor of their many decades of support for the Arts in South Monterey County.
No tickets are required for this FREE concert, and doors open at 6:30 p.m. The Robert Stanton Theater is located on the King City High School campus.
