Concert of Gratitude 2
Monterey County Pops!, the area’s only provider of free-to-the-public professional concerts, is proud to present its 15-member fully professional String Ensemble conducted and hosted by Music Director, Dr. Carl Christensen. The concert will feature a program of pops, light classics, and seasonal favorites.
Featured soloists include the Monterey County Pops!/Community Partnership for Youth Chorus (MaryClare Martin, Director); La Rondalla del Centro de Bellas Artes Alisal (Richard Andrade, Daniel Andrade, and Christian Madrigal, Directors); Cellist, Devin LaMarr; Violinist, Clarece LaMarr; and Blue Grass Fiddler, Laura Burian.
The Youth Chorus will perform several selections including their theme song, “Music All Over Me”, accompanied by the Monterey County Pops! String Ensemble playing special arrangements written by Dr. Christensen especially for this concert. The Chorus consists of young people participating in programs of “Community Partnership for Youth” and is co-sponsored by CPY and the Monterey County Pops!
A Rondalla is youthful ensemble in which all members sing and play guitar. La Rondalla del Centro de Bellas Artes Alisal will perform “Perfume de Gardenia” by Rafael Hernandez and “Como Imaginar” as adapted by the Rondalla de Saltillo.
Blue Grass fiddler, Laura Burian, will perform a medley of three fiddle tunes: Devil’s Dream, Mason’s Apron, and Ragtime Annie, as well as “The Lovers’ Waltz.” Laura is a long-time member of the popular local band, Heartstrings, and is a professor at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey where she teaches simultaneous and consecutive interpretation of Chinese and English.
Sisters Clarece and Devin LaMarr will perform the “Allegro” from the Concerto for Violin and Cello by Vivaldi. Violinist,Clarece LaMarr, now 14, began the study of the violin at the age of 5. She is a member of the San Jose Youth Chamber Orchestra. Her teacher is Tyler Reilly, a MC Pops! violinist.
Cellist, Devin La Marr, now 16, began cello study at the age of 7. From 2009 to 2014 she was a member of the San Jose Youth Chamber Orchestra. She now studies with Jonah Kim of San Francisco. Mr. Kim is a graduate of the Julliard and Curtis Conservatories.
Other titles to be performed include “Thanksgiving Medley,” “Canon” by Johann Pachelbel, “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” by Mozart, “Christmas Concerto” by Corelli, and “Jazz Pizzicato” by Leroy Anderson.
