CLEF NOTES: December 1, 2020
Dear Friend of Monterey County Pops!,
Thank you for your amazing support over the years. I am writing today to urge you to join me in making a donation to the Monterey County Pops! through the MC Gives! 2020 campaign. We are so thrilled and honored that once again we have been selected to participate. As you know, this means that your donation made through MC Gives! will be partially matched – by Monterey County Weekly and their partners.
We have enclosed a stamped envelope and an MC Gives! 2020 Donation form for your convenience. Checks must be made payable to the Community Foundation for Monterey County (on the memo line write in: MCGives! – MC Pops!). Include your address, phone, and email address. You can also donate on-line at: www.montereycountygives.com/pops
Under the extraordinary direction of the award-winning Dr. Carl Christensen, The Monterey County Pops! is still the only professional orchestra in our area dedicated to presenting pops and patriotic concerts free-of-charge. With your support, hundreds of youth from hard-working, low-income families participate fully in our distinguished music education program – with free classes and performance opportunities provided by our dedicated professional musicians.
Our partner schools and community groups have been thrilled with our approach and our results. “Finally, students feel validated and experience validation of their cultural music,” wrote Ruben Pulido, Director of the Alisal Community Arts Network and former Superintendent of the Alisal Union School District.
Your support ensures these programs continue even during the pandemic in areas where the needs are greatest and access is far too limited. Throughout the pandemic, we have maintained an active schedule: beginning with our live 4th of July Concert television broadcast with our orchestra in full compliance with Covid-19 restrictions with professional production by Access Monterey Peninsula (AMP). We presented our full-length program and received heartfelt, rave reviews.
We have pivoted our music instruction online as well – with interactive modules specially designed and presented for high school, middle school and elementary school students. In close collaboration with our education partners we are broadcasting our own regularly scheduled television program each week — featuring one of our professional orchestra musicians instructing/ demonstrating their particular instrument to a television audience of middle and high school music students and their families.
Your support of the Monterey County Pops! provides high-quality concerts and music education for everyone in our region – more important than ever for our youth, families and communities to stay connected, energized and optimistic. Thank You!!
Sincerely,
Steve De Carli
Board President
