CELEBRATION! Independence Day 2021 LIVE STREAM

Monterey County Pops! is pleased to celebrate July 4, 2021 with a return to free, live, public concerts of pops and patriotic music “on the lawn.”
MCP!’s theme for the day is “Celebration” and the program will include a new special arrangement of the hit song by the same name which was created and recorded by “Kool & The Gang.”
In cooperation with the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea, the festive day will begin with an open rehearsal and sound check 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The popular local band, “Heartstrings”, whose members include MCP! Interim Executive Director, Paulette Lynch, and frequent MCP! soloist, fiddler, Laura Burian, will entertain from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m.
Former Mayor of Carmel and President Emeritus of MCP!, Ken White, will welcome the public to the organization’s first live, in-person, 90-minute concert of 2021 beginning at 2:00 p.m.
The fully-professional 38-member orchestra will be conducted and hosted bi-lingually by MCP! Music Director, Dr. Carl Christensen. Several vocal soloists will be featured including MCP! board member, Jackie Craghead.
The concert will include Americana from various traditions including blues, jazz, rock, and Latin. International marches and lively circus marches will be featured as well as those by John Philip Sousa, along with toe-tapping light classics. The program will conclude with the 1812 Overture Finale, and John Philip Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever.
The concert will be conducted in accordance with state and county health regulations in force on the date of the concert. The audience is invited to dress for an outdoor event and to bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets.
